The American Staring George Clooney Review

Just finished watching The American staring the underrated George Clooney, I wish I could say that this movie was underrated, but unfortunately it was just boring.

When I lived in Europe, or when I talk to the more artsy type of movie watcher here in the United States I understand when someone complains about the mindless action special effect blockbuster that lacks any substance. The American is the opposite of this. Though it’s still an American movie, it was built like a European movie. Leonard Malten’s review was too positive for me, but he hit right on when he called the film: ” In fact, it’s a slowly-paced, European-style mood piece, short on dialogue and action and long on atmosphere.” The American is an example of the boring ass European movie that goes no where expects to understand the art of it all and expects you to find some kind of deep meaning that is implied but really isn’t there at all.

The are many good high atmosphere, low on dialogue, European style films, this is not one of them. If you want to George Clooney put on a good show in a minimalist kind of film go buy Up In The Air, at least that film doesn’t sell itself as an action movie. What a disappointment.
